Landing Fee: The reason behind our decision to levy a $300 fee on helicopter operators– FG
The Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has clarified its rationale for introducing a $300 landing fee on helicopter operators, citing it as a cost recovery measure aligned with international best practices. According to the ministry, this initiative aims to enhance capacity, safety, security, and attract investment in the aviation industry, echoing common practices seen in developed countries where helicopter landing levies are prevalent across airfields. Odutayo Oluseyi, Head of Press and Public Affairs at FMAAD, emphasized that the fee would enable the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) to generate resources for improving security and enhancing helicopter operations. The ministry highlighted examples from countries like the United States and the United Kingdom, where helicopter landing levies are customary, demonstrating its commitment to international standards. It also underscored the importance of NAMA’s role in collecting aeronautical revenues to support self-sustainability and address the need for enhanced resources in both upper and lower airspace. The ministry expressed confidence that this measure would boost capacity, efficiency, safety, security, and investment in the aviation sector while urging stakeholders to support the initiative for the industry’s advancement.
