Air Peace partners with seven countries to rejuvenate defunct Caribbean airline

The UK Civil Aviation Authority has notified Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Authority regarding reported violations of aviation safety regulations by Air Peace. This notification follows shortly after the Nigerian carrier launched its Lagos-London route just three months ago. Allegedly, two mandatory occurrence reports concerning Air Peace were sent to the UK Civil Aviation Authority, which subsequently forwarded the complaints to the NCAA.

The complaint letter from the CAA forwarded to the NCAA bore the titles “United Kingdom SAFA Ramp Inspection Report” with reference number CAA-UK-2024-0217 and “NATS Management System Safety Report.” Additionally, the NCAA has contacted Air Peace requesting clarification on the matters raised. The letter from the NCAA, with reference number NCAA/DOLTS/APL/Vol.11/03624, was titled “United Kingdom SAFA Ramp Inspection Report.”

Dated May 14, 2024, and signed by Capt. O.O. Lawani, General Manager of Operations at the NCAA, the letter addressed concerns raised by the UK CAA regarding the operational approval of Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) functions, impacting the safe operation of Air Peace’s aircraft. It was noted that the captain of the flight admitted to using an EFB for navigational purposes. Additionally, the UK CAA highlighted the absence of a mounting device, charging points, or battery backup for the EFB in their letter.

Air Peace recently initiated operations to London Gatwick from Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos under the Bilateral Air Services Agreement between Nigeria and the UK. Attempts to contact Air Peace’s spokesperson, Stanley Olisa, were unsuccessful at the time of press.

Upon calling, the spokesperson answered but remained silent when questioned about the development until the call ended. Our correspondent also sent a text message seeking clarification, but received no response by the time of filing this report.
